U.S.S. Ruchamkin - APD-89 (DE-228)
An All-Purpose-Destroyer (APD), the Ruchamkin was outfitted for landing craft in place of the torpedo tubes.
This ship suffered a horrific accident at sea, when a Texaco oil tanker rammed it amidships, nearly cutting the ship in two.
My Father, Paul K. Albertine, was stationed on the Ruchamkin during the mid-50's. Recently, he has attended two ship's reunions, one in October 2005 and another in April 2007. I have pictures from the 1950's and pictures from the reunion.
Please remember that all of these pictures are available in a higher resolution than shown here.

This picture, also taken in Brest, France, is shot from 180 degrees opposite of the picture that my father took. In the background you can see the bridge that my father stood on while taking the picture. I found this picture while researching on the NavSource.org website seeking the identity of the two destroyers in my father's picture. Thanx to both Marc Piché and the NavSource website for permission to use this photo. Copies of this
photo are only available from Marc Piché, please contact me to be forwarded to Marc.
